I remember when we started the 5th grade writing SOL test. That was bad...
Kinda the same. We would hammer home the writing process so that the kids would brainstorm/plan, then write a rough draft, then edit, then do a final copy....all by hand. This was a looooong test and we would often have kids that started at the beginning of the day and not finish until that evening and parents would have to come pick them up.
Then the state made it an online test. So kids would still do all the planning and rough drafts and editing on paper but had to type their final copy online. This was extremely painful for 9/10-year-olds, many of whom had never typed on a computer before. Talk about slow!
